AN ADVENTURE with What's Left of Nature An
Open Invitation by Pahlawan

When was the last
time you had a dip in a river or played by a waterfall? - the real thing
I mean, not the artificial or chlorinated ones like in Sunway Lagoon -
and - there's no entrance fee? ;)
You're invited to have some fun in the sun (and rain, if it pours!). It's going to be a water-play/dip-in-the-water by a waterfall along the historical Sungai Selangor. Bring your friends, family and extended families along... children, godchildren, nephews and nieces too! Unlike textbooks, you bet this is going to be a fun-filled learning experience... On the way to the waterfall, we will make a stop to see the site of the proposed Sg Selangor Dam (100 metres high, 800 metres wide) and will be passing through an Orang Asli village. Pahlawan Minister of Saving Mother Nature Sonia Radhawa, will give us a rundown on the effects of the dam(n) on the environment, IF the project goes through. The site, formerly known as Ampang Pecah, got its name from the collapse of the then much smaller dam in 1883 which took 25 lives. Errr, for the rest of the story... JOIN

Pahlawan Minister of Getting Us to Our Destination Fanny Chu, will lead the convoy of cars. Alternatively, make your own way there. Head towards Fraser's Hill. Along the road, just after an eco-tourism place (Tracks), after a bridge, meet you at the car park at 12.30pm sharp. Things to bring: Food (for picnic), swimming gear, extra change of clothes, towels, floats for children, sun block lotion and perhaps mosquito repellant. Leave your corporate attire at home. Super casual - t-shirts, shorts, caps and most important - comfortable walking shoes. If you wanna look cool, sunglasses too! The rest is left to your imagination! Those who would like to trek to the Chiling Waterfalls takes about 45 minutes and you have to cross the river several times. Children below 10, if any, are best left to the care of a few guardians at the picnic site. It will be safer to come in walking shoes - no slippers, if possible. Feel free to stay there forever, leave when everyone decides to leave, or leave whenever YOU decide it's time to go! Don't expect too much - we're just a group of think-terror' Pahlawans getting together to enjoy a bit of the countryside! Would appreciate if you could e-mail Pahlawan Minister of Cool Fun and Adventure Dora Khoo at kdora@ppp.nasionet.net so we have a rough idea of the number joining in this trip. Errrr...

On the serious side, gosh, whatelse are our children missing out? Text books instead of fun-filled learning experiences. More on what our next generation is missing out, read What Does the Recent Meteor Shower Tells Us about Leadership at Schools and Us? Dora!! organize more Advertures with What's Left of Nature!! Where shall we go next? Cheers!

I have saved one of the pics on Sg Selangor as a wallpaper for my PCs. The scenes were simply beautiful. Well, bugs on your son’s feet and he screamed for his mama? Have you heard from the lady participant, who wore a tudung last Saturday, talking about her children? It seems that their only interest was their PC and they grudgingly came along to the river with their parents. The mother coaxed the children to give their PC a rest and insisted that they come along to see some green. The minute they arrived at the Pertak carpark near the Tracks Outdoors, one of the children said in protest, “Mak, now that you have reached the place and you ‘dah nampak hijau’, let’s go home!” We are in a sorry state where
computers and text books are the only universe known to the young ones

Ai say man! It is the reverse now. You may need a rotan to make your children get up from their desks nowadays. For those of you who did not attend the SOS Selangor forum at Chinese Assembly Hall last week, you have missed a lucid narration on heaven on earth by Antares, in more or less a simliar vein by Foong Wai Fong’s article in Pahlawan website.
